With appreciation for your community spirit!
When the CEC began 38 years ago this month, the Center was envisioned as a program where early childhood professionals and parents could come together to create a community focused on holistic beliefs and practices that support optimal development for children. Providing support for families and creating a like-minded professional community for staff was identified to be as important as the child development approach itself. For parents, one aspect of strengthening this community is through parent participation.
Parent participation is like it sounds: parents participating and supporting the life of the Center through the sharing of their talents and efforts. This can take the form of serving as a trustee, lending expertise to a committee, helping with laundry, working at a fundraiser, or cleaning and maintaining the buildings and grounds on a work day. Each hour of participation truly matters because these activities are not only critically important to achieving governance and community-building goals, but also means parents are a vital force in building the CEC community for the children and for themselves.
I recently noted the strength of the spirit of participation when I checked SignUpGenius and found that almost all of the shifts for the upcoming Pancake Breakfast (Saturday, September 16) had already been filled even though the event is two weeks away. Thank you for making this first community event of the program year possible! I hope that throughout the coming year, each parent will find a meaningful and hopefully fun way to help build the strength of the community. If you have any questions about parent participation please feel free to contact Helen or reference our Giving Guide.
