A Renewed Mission

Dear CEC Community,

I hope this message finds you well, and that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy. Despite the challenges of the past year, one positive has come out of this pandemic, the ability to reflect and be grateful for what is most important to us. The Board has taken this opportunity of reflection to reevaluate the CEC’s mission statement. This past February, during our annual Board Retreat, board members and staff leadership worked together to strengthen and refine our mission statement and at our March meeting we adopted the following mission:

The CEC’s mission is to ignite joy, curiosity, and compassion through innovative children’s programs for all.

The Board is excited about this new mission statement because we feel like it accomplishes the following:

  1. It communicates succinctly the purpose of the CEC to families, funders, potential partners, and the broader community.

  2. The “for all” at the end of the mission statement better reflects our desire to bring the magic of the CEC to diverse communities outside of the Pasadena/La Canada area through the CEC’s outreach, consulting and professional development work.

  3. It highlights that the CEC is a leader in terms of our pioneering focus on progressive, child-centered, outdoor learning and our commitment to nurturing the whole child.

On behalf of the CEC board, I want to thank you for being a critical part of our community and for your ongoing support.

With gratitude,
